Joanne has been working in Penarth for over 6 years now, is well known by local GPs and has built up a reputation for being a caring, and knowledgeable physiotherapist. She is always seeking to ensure she is able to provide an excellent, evidence based approach to treatment in order that her clients may benefit from her expertise.
Joanne is a Chartered Physiotherapist with over 20 years experience who qualified from University College London in 1996 and gained a Masters in 2001. She has worked at University College London Hospitals Trust, a top London Teaching Hospital with leading Orthopaedic consultants gaining experience of acute sports injuries, A&E care and surgical management. She is a member of the Musculo-skeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MACP) which is a specialist group for physiotherapists who have studied Manual Therapy to an advanced level.
She has experience in the treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and has worked extensively within both the NHS and Private Sector. This has included working in occupational health settings in the City of London and for the Ministry of Defence, developing skills in work place and ergonomic assessment. Joanne is trained in the use of spinal manipulation, mobilising and soft tissue techniques and is able to combine this with rehabilitation and exercise to achieve the desired results. She has also been involved in the mentoring of post-graduate physiotherapists from University of Hertfordshire and newly qualified physiotherapists.
Joanne has gained Pilates Instructor qualifications from the Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute of Physiotherapy and is happy to provide advice and develop exercise programmes to help with rehabilitation based on this. Pilates is particularly useful as part of a whole treatment plan to improve and assist with the management of spinal pain or other joint dysfunctions and can be enjoyed by anyone, whatever their age or fitness level due to the gentle nature of the exercises. Joanne is also able to adapt this for ante/post-natal clients. She can provide careful guidance and advice for clients with osteoperosis or hypermobility
As a keen sports person (having recently completed the 3 Peaks Challenge!) she is able to provide advice regarding rehabilitation following injury in a number of differing sports such as golf, dance, swimming, tennis, running and hiking. She has worked to support running and golf clubs in Cambridgeshire during recent years, providing advice and treatment for their members. Joanne has considerable experience working with musicians, helping them to overcome musculoskeletal problems encountered through playing and performing.
